Transferring an active domain name entails changing the company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS updates through the new registrar. The transfer process itself is standard with most generic and country-code domain extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails several basic steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The domain lock is a safety feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry operators. It is a default feature supported by all generic Top-Level Domains. If a domain is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even attempt to steal your domain name. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this feature are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through our company is exceptionally easy. This can be accomplished through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our cloud plans, and will take exactly two clicks. All your domains will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the domain lock option, you’ll see a padlock-like icon. Click on it once and you will notice the current status of the domain. Click once more and you’ll alter its status. The change will propagate momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can proceed with the transfer process right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you would like to transfer a domain name from our company to another domain registrar and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to get the domain ready with just several mouse clicks. All your domain registrations will be displayed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the same tool via which you will administer your hosting account. If a particular gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock option, you’ll see a padlock-like icon. You can find out whether the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can change the status by clicking once again. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will have to do, so you can initiate the transfer procedure right away. The change will propagate immediately, so you won’t need to wait for the status to change on WHOIS lookup websites.
